Border Llamas, run by Sue and Mike Longhurst, is a Llama Trekking and Training Centre set amidst the beautiful rolling hills of the Bourbonnais region of the Allier, Auvergne, France. Having spent the last 16 years successfully breeding, rearing (over 50 strong and healthy cria),training and exporting llamas all over Europe, we decided to use our extensive knowledge gained during these many years of hands-on experience to train and equip others with the skills and knowledge necessary to keep, breed and train their own llamas.  We now offer a range of llama training courses to suit a variety of different client requirements. Our smallholding courses, one day or two and three day residential courses, are designed to assist those who are considering purchasing a small holding in France and wish to fully understand what is involved in the setting up and equipment necessary for its day to day operation and upkeep.  Although we now only have llamas and chickens, over the last 16 years we have successfully set up 4 different types of smallholdings from scratch, ranging from 6 Acres all the way up to 50 Acres and we have owned and bred a range of different animals with differing requirements for fencing, pasture, shelter, day to day management and ownership costs, which include Clydesdale horses, llamas, Shetland sheep, goats and chickens. We currently maintain a small herd of llamas for trekking and training with a mix of castrated males and  females, this enables us to provide different types of training to people with different interests and requirements, be this directed towards owning llamas for breeding, trekking, guardians or as pasture pets.   However, we also realise that some people are still deciding whether owning Llamas is right for them nor not, so we provide llama centric breaks where you can come and spend as much or as little time interacting with the llamas as you like and decide if owning llamas would be the right choice for you. At Border Llamas when we train people, we speak in plain English and people do not  need to learn a whole new vocabulary which can be confusing and often difficult to remember for what are really simple everyday items and procedures. We are dog friendly and if you attend any of our courses, you are welcome to bring a maximum of two of your dog(s) at no extra cost.  Please see our Dog Terms and Conditions page for more information. Thank you for visiting our web site, we hope you enjoy and benefit from the information and pictures provided for your pleasure.  If you have any questions regarding this site or any of the information or courses we offer, please do not hesitate to contact us.
