This course is aimed at those who wish to understand what is involved in setting up and maintaining a smallholding in France.  We cover a wide range of subjects that will ensure that you can make a more informed opinion of whether a particular smallholding you have in mind will suit your needs and what equipment you will require to help you set up and then maintain the smallholding.  You will also get a better understanding of the day to day costs involved with various aspects of running a smallholding. Our smallholding course is bespoke by design and we will confirm with you beforehand what it is you wish to achieve with your smallholding so we can will focus on the areas you actually want covered and that will benefit you most, i.e. you gain no benefit if we spend time talking to you about erecting stock fencing for sheep if you intend keeping horses and want to erect electric fencing etc.  likewise there is no point discussing lambing if you just want to keep chickens….. The subjects on this course are discussed in depth but this is not a hands on course where we actually erect fences or drive tractors etc During the course these are some of the general areas that we cover: Fencing: layout considerations, types , fencing equipment, electric fencing, costs Gates: types, installation, considerations, costs Tractors and Attachments: Compact/Micro tractors, benefits, limitations, safety, maintenance, costs, laws in France Stabling/animal housing: Design, maintenance, pros and cons of different construction methods, adapting existing buildings, costs.
